Highlights of the feast
Mount Tabor - The Greek Orthodox Church is located on the mountain top. The unique experience associated with this feast is the all -night vigil on Mount Tabor.

Arab Christians camp in the woods surrounding the church and spend the night there, while the Divine Liturgy is celebrated throughout the night in and outside the church. On the 19th, the feast is celebrated in a Divine Liturgy held in the church. In honor of the occasion, some pilgrims choose to ascend the mountain on foot


Towards the Dormition - Procession of the Icon (O)

This event marks the beginning of the long feast of the Virgin Mary’s Dormition. On this day, the icon of the Virgin Mary is carried in a procession to her tomb. Prayers and rites will be held in the Church of the Tomb of Mary, throughout the remainder of the week.

Highlights of the feast
Jerusalem - From the nearby Church of the Holy Sepulchre to the Church of the Tomb of Mary in Gethsemane - The nocturnal procession departs from “Metochion of Gethsemane” located opposite the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. It passes through the market and along the Via Dolorosa, and exits the city to reach the church of the Tomb of Mary in Gethsemane at dawn.
