July 2012

Dear Readers,
We are delighted to bring you July's new items of interest.
St. John in the Desert
All four gospels refer to John the Baptist's preaching and
baptism in the Jordan River. He is especially remembered as
the person who baptized Jesus. Tradition identifies the
deserted place where John grew up as the hermitage of St.
John in the Desert.
St. Anne and the Pools of Bethesda
Early Christian tradition places the home of Joachim and
Anne, parents of Mary, next to a double pool that was a
popular healing center – the Pools of Bethesda.
Jewish-Christian Relations
Cardinal Kurt Koch, President of the Pontifical Commission
for Religious Relations with the Jews, recently visited
Jerusalem. His visit to Israel is widely viewed as another
positive step in the improving relations between the Catholic
Church and the Jewish people and the State of Israel.
We look forward to welcoming you in the Holy Land
