Pentecost: Commemorating the descent
of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles

The traditional site of the Pentecost is the Cenacle (the Coenaculum, the Upper Room) on Mount Zion. This is where Jesus shared the Last Supper with his disciples. According to Christian tradition, this is where the disciples used to gather and where the Holy Spirit descended upon them. From this place the first Christian Bishops ruled the early church of Jerusalem. Most the Sacraments were instituted at this site. The Cenacle is considered to be "the Mother of All Churches".

The Custos of the Holy Land Fr. Pierbattista Pizzaballa calls on all to come to the Holy Land as "it is a very important experience for all pilgrims to reconnect physically with the experience of Jesus, and demonstrate a form of concrete solidarity with all the inhabitants of the Holy Land."

Shavuot: Hag Matan Torateinu
(the Festival of the Giving of Our Torah)
 
Shavuot (lit. weeks) marks the giving of the Torah on Mt. Sinai. The holiday is celebrated exactly seven weeks after the first day of Passover, which marks the Exodus itself.

Holy Land Pilgrimage channel on YouTube
 
In April we opened a Holy Land Pilgrimage channel on YouTube. The channel contains videos of the highlights of Pope Benedict XVI’s visit to the Holy Land last year. The channel also includes an invitation by the Custos to visit the Holy Land and testimonials of pilgrims who have already come. You can register as friend or subscribe. So far about 270,000 people have viewed the videos.
