April- October 2016: 'BEHIND THE MASK'- A NEW EXHIBIT OPENS AT THE BIBLE LANDS MUSEUM

“Behind the Mask” is the new exhibit that opens this week at the Bible Lands Museum Jerusalem and is made up entirely of masks belonging to private individuals.

Opened in time for Purim, “Behind the Mask” features masks from all continents, ancient and modern, from collectors all over Israel. Purim is the Jewish holiday in which it is a tradition to wear costumes. There are several different explanations to why Jews dress up in Purim. The most popular one is an allusion to the nature of the Purim miracle, where the details of the story are really miracles hidden within natural events.

Masks have been in use since the dawn of human history. The roles masks play span many cultures, styles and functions….
The exhibit featuring a fascinating display of various masks will be on display until September, 2016. Special guided tours, family oriented activities and programming will be offered to complement this project.
